Kelly Monaco Interview: “I’m Glad They Put Me In Jason’s Arms”

Kelly has played the beautiful, strong, sensitive woman, Samantha McCall since 2003. Immediately after debuting as the scuba diving bad-ass con-artist, she won the hearts of GH fans everywhere. Sam is one tough cookie with a whole lot heart. Sam’s epic love story with Jason Morgan (then Steve Burton) will live on forever.

In this must-read ‘On Air Soaps with Michael Fairman’ interview with Kelly Monaco, Kelly tells Michael and the fans all about working with Steve Burton, Jason Thompson, and Billy Miller.

When Kelly was asked by Michael Fairman about “Samtrick” which is the ship name for Sam and Patrick as a couple, Kelly had many good things to say about this pairing on and off screen. Monaco explains to Michael that she and Jason Thompson have been fighting for a Patrick and Sam pairing for a very long time. They two are great friends outside of the workplace and have a real trust and bond between the two of them. Michael Fairman asked Kelly:

MICHAEL:

Let’s talk about Samtrick.  When they said we are going to pair you with Jason Thompson and try to broach a romance between Patrick and Sam, once they had established their friendship, what were your thoughts on that?   Were you at all worried it wouldn’t play?

Samtrick fans will love her heartwarming response…

KELLY:

“Jason and I have been fighting for that for a long time, since Steve Burton left, basically.  We were in New York like a year and half ago, and we went up to Ron Carlivati’s (head writer, GH) office and the writers over at General Hospital.  We both sat there and we’re like “Well?”  And they said, “No, not yet.  You guys are friends,” meaning, of course, our characters on the show we’re friends.  Jason and I were like, “Just try it!”  And lo and behold, I don’t know when they decided, but here is it is, and I love it.  Jason Thompson is my friend in real life, and he’s my family.  So it’s really great working with him – it’s fresh and new, and we hadn’t had the opportunity to interact like that on-screen before.  There is a trust there that you can make out on-screen, or whatever.  I am not taking anything away from Michael Easton.  I have known him for 15 years, but if they were going to shift me and put me somewhere, I am glad they put me in Jason’s arms.”

We want to know, what are your thoughts about Sam and Patrick as a new hot couple? Does Sam belong with Jason, or is the time finally right to move on with someone else? Are you #TeamJaSam or #TeamSamtrick?

The Secrets Kiki is Keeping Will Send the Character Into a New Direction

Kristen Alderson is among the bright young stars that grace the General Hospital audience with their presence; bringing fresh, young, exciting, and fun drama to our television. Alderson, alongside with Chad Duell (Michael Corinthos) and Bryan Craig (Morgan Corinthos) have set the stage for their generation of Port Charles residents. Newcomer, Rosalie Martinez (Linda Elena Tovar), seems to fit right into her scenes with her peers and co-stars, Alderson, Craig, and Duell.

In a recent interview with Soap Opera Network, Kristen Alderson (Kiki Jerome) explained her thoughts on her new(er) daytime role as Kiki in comparison to her long time iconic role of Starr Manning on ABC’s One Life to Live. She describes Kiki as having a little bit of Starr mixed with new personality traits of a rougher, tougher young woman, Kiki Jerome. Kiki also has a connection with the man she once thought was her father, Franco, played by her former OLTL TV dad, Roger Howarth. The two actors have an extreme dynamic when they are in scenes together, and perhaps that is another reason why Kiki is a little bit like Starr. Alderson and Howarth still have an on screen connection even outside of OLTL. She says, “Just because they all grew up watching me as Starr, which is great; that’s what makes the characters connect to me. So if that’s the way it works, that’s the way it works. And now I feel like there’s still enough Kiki from the beginning, but there’s also a little bit of Starr. It’s a little mix, and I’m proud of Ron, that he’s been able to do that, and grateful, because that’s why the audience is still liking me.”

Kristen Alderson explains that she thinks Kiki is headed into a new direction, showing more independence from her on screen boyfriend, Michael Corinthos , who is portrayed by her real life boyfriend, Chad Duell. Kiki is keeping a few secrets regarding residents of Port Charles. Soap Opera Network reports that these secrets will take Kiki into a more centralized direction as her character may be the center of multiple story lines.

Jimmy Deshler (Rafe Kovich) “I guess it was a surprise to all of us.”

Nobody saw it coming. The quiet, sweet kid with the sociopathic father, and a vampire loving mother. His Father is gone, he watched his mother get murdered before his eyes. Sam Morgan adopted Rafe and made him part of her family. He fell in love with her sister, Molly, but her feelings were not reciprocated. His uncle Silas fought Sam for custody, only to give in and realize Rafe was better off with Sam. Silas and Sam then fell in love. Rafe had a tough life and he eventually turned to drugs. Still, nobody saw it coming. The writers had Rafe be responsible (physically) for running Patrick and Sabrina of the road, which ultimately killed their son. It came as a shock to us all when Molly and Rafe were involved in a high speed police chase, crashed, and Rafe ended up brain dead. They even teased us a little more when Nina was hallucinating that Rafe was awake and speaking to her.

It looks as though the fans were not the only one shocked by Jimmy Deshler’s exit from General Hospital and the death of his character Rafe. In a recent Soaps in Depth interview, Deshler explains that his character’s demise was shocking news to him as well. He learned that Rafe would pass away only days before having to tape the episode. “I guess it was just confidential and they didn’t want any of the story getting out, so I found out the Monday of the week it was happening. I guess it was a surprise to all of us,” he tells Soaps in Depth.

Deshler has been a part of the GH family since January of 2013. Although it is sad to see him go, there is no doubt Deshler will succeed in any project he pursues next. He disclosed to SID that there is a possibility he will be attending college, and focusing on someday being a part of the big screen. “I have kid of set it as my goal to get a feature film and have that be my next project I work on.”

We already miss that sweet face!

As much as we hope Victor Cassadine has him frozen in a cryogenic chamber with Jason Morgan, it looks as the Rafe will not be returning from the dead for the foreseeable future.
