There were bittersweet moments that took place during the 50th annual Daytime Emmy Awards. Loss plagued the community after several unexpected deaths hit close to home. Previously, GH news reports confirm that the Soap Opera’s long time actress Sonya Eddy died at the age of 55. The Emmy-winning actress played Epiphany Johnson, GH’s Head Nurse, for 16 years.

On December 15th, the Daytime Emmy Awards showcased talent across the Daytime television communities. That’s when Eddy was honored for her work on ABC’s General Hospital upon receiving a posthumous award for Best Supporting Actress In A Drama Series. According to GH news reports, a battle for Sonya Eddy’s Daytime Emmy award has made headlines.

Reportedly, Sonya’s friend and producing partner Tyler Ford accepted the award on her behalf. According to news outlet TMZ, Sonya’s brother Robbie Eddy spoke out regarding his sister’s posthumous Emmy win. He mentioned that the family wasn’t notified that she’d be receiving the honor. Now allegedly, Tyler Ford has denied Eddy’s family upon their request for the award.

GH news reports reveal that Sonya’s family has no plans to take legal action against the Award Academy or Tyler Ford at this time. Moreover, GH rumors claim that Sonya was estranged from some family members at the time of her death. Hopefully the issue is resolved and the drama subsides as Sonya is remembered.

The 49th annual Daytime Emmy Awards aired on June 24th, 2022 on CBS. The cast was gathered together for a celebratory evening honoring the hard work and talent of everyone involved in General Hospital‘s production.

The glamorous night was an overall joyous event with GH taking home 4 Emmy trophies, including Outstanding Drama Series for the historic moment. The 59 year old daytime drama has the most wins in this category at 15!

However, amidst the celebrations, the cast felt for members of their GH family and co-stars, Kristina and Jack Wagner. The once real life couple recently experienced the tragic death of their son, Harrison. General Hospital news and spoilers reports reveal cast-mates disclosed their feelings and support for Kristina and Jack during this difficult time. GH news reports confirm, actress Kelly Thiebaud (Dr. Britt Westbourne) revealed the cast of GH attended Harrison Wagner’s funeral earlier this month in support of Jack and Kristina.

General Hospital spoilers reveal, actress Kelly Monaco (Sam McCall) told Entertainment Tonight, “I had a similar experience in November with my best friend and the GH cast was amazing,” Monaco disclosed to ET. “It’s a family, and the same grace has been extended to Kristina and Jack. I have chills talking about it. My heart goes out to them because I know exactly what they’re feeling. It’s tragic.”

GH co-star Nancy Lee Grahn expressed her thoughts on Jack and Kristina’s devastating loss, describing Kristina as “remarkably strong” and “an exemplary mother.” she continued, “It was very challenging to have a son that has an addiction. That is a disease,” Grahn said. “They both handle it every well, but Kristina, I admire her very much and she’s doing really well, under the circumstances. Very strong.”

Congratulations General Hospital!

Congratulations to all of the cast and crew of General Hospital for their big win at the 39th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards! General Hospital took home 5 awards on Saturday, including Outstanding Drama Series. Congrats to Anthony Geary on his win for Lead Actor, to Nancy Lee Grahan for Best Supporting Actress, to Jonathon Jackson for Best Supporting Actor, and to the GH directing team! Also, congratulations to ALL the GH nominees, your fans are very proud of you!!! This awards ceremony got me so emotional. I shed tears of joy and happiness for my favorite show, GH, and also tears of sadness for the actors and actresses of All My Children and One Life to Live. I still believe that the loss of those two soaps were made under wrongful decisions and has resulted in an historic television network mistake. I am very proud of ABC’s last soap standing and have confidence that GH will continue to touch the lives of fans everywhere five days a week , for many years to come. Congrats General Hospital!
