This is ONE. BIG. DEAL. General Hospital is turning 50! Everyone wants to take part in celebrating General Hospital’s 50th anniversary. On Saturday, April 6th, at 9PM Eastern time, 20/20 will be doing a special on the iconic soap opera through the fictional streets of Port Charles. The show will include an interview with Kelly Monaco (Sam Morgan) and a look at celebrities who made their start on GH. ThisĀ specialĀ edition of 20/20, “The Real Soap Dish” will be anchored by Katie Couric.

The Return of Audrey Hardy (Rachel Ames)

There is more excited news to share regarding the return if yet another General Hospital vet.Rachel Ames, who originated the role of Audrey Hardy in 1964 is returning to the canvas. In an interview on the show KATIE, Genie Francis revealed that Ames will be returning to General Hospital on March 26th, 2013. Ames’ character Audrey Hardy was last on screen in 2009. I am sure Elizabeth will be happy to see Gram next month! This is going to be one exciting 50th anniversary for GH.

Soap Opera Ratings Rise; ‘Katie’ Plunging

Recent reports prove that the soap opera genre is far from endangered. There are four remaining daytime dramas which include ABC’s General Hospital, CBS’s The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless, and NBC’s Days of our Lives. Ratings prove that these shows surpass those of the talk shows the replaced the late great soaps from ABC, One Life to Live and All My Children.

General Hospital fans will rejoice at the news that GH reels in more viewers in the target demographic of women age 25-54 than the show it had to move time slot for, Katie Couric. Katie’s ratings aren’t doing as well as anticipated, as General Hospital’s ratings soar. For a full article regarding this topic please click here.

General Hospital New Time Slot

Well the rumors did come true, General Hospital will be going from 3PM Eastern/Standard time to 2PM Eastern Standard time. After almost 50 years of airing on ABC at 3PM, because of Katie Couric’s new show, that will change September 10th, 2012. I use this blog to talk about GH, give information, share opinions, and gush about favorite couples and characters. I don’t like negativity because I LOVE THIS SHOW. This time however, I can’t help but post in a negative way. It’s not about the character, actors, or the show. It’s about the situation. I do not understand why Katie Couric can’t go on at 2PM. Why make a change to something that has been the same for so many years, especially while it’s doing so well? My fear is that TPTB will use the new time slot as an excuse to get rid of GH. Using excuses like, “The 2PM slot just wasn’t working. There wasn’t enough audience.” I myself will watch at 2PM because this is my favorite show and I will always support it. But there are many people out there that may not for various reasons. I really hope I am completely wrong, and GH will stay strong at it’s new time. But all in all, I am and never will I be a Katie Couric fan. There is no need for this change and if GH tanks it is her fault.
