General Hospital News and Spoilers: Maurice Benard Reveals Retirement Plans and GH Contract Details

General Hospital: Maurice Benard Addresses Rumors

General Hospital star, and heart and soul of the modern day era of the show discusses his future plans as Daytime TV’s infamous mobster, Sonny Corinthos. Maurice Benard joined General Hospital’s cast in 1993. Before long, Sonny’s presence greatly impacted the overall way of life in Port Charles. Organized crime has remained a focal point of the 62 year old Soap Opera.

Today, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) himself is the center of the show. For many, a world where a Sonny-less General Hospital exists, is a world unfathomable. However, Maurice has also made a name for himself in the mental health community, and can be seen hosting his own YouTube channel and talk show. State of Mind’s popularity continues to grow as Maurice’s mental heath based talk show gains traction among fans.

Recently, Benard sat down with Richard Taite, Executive Chairman of Carrara Treatment Wellness and Spa, and Host of We’re Out Of Time. They discussed GH rumors, and Benard cleared the air about his future as Sonny Corinthos on General Hospital. Benard addressed rumors that he’s dying (obviously not), and confirmed that he’s not leaving. “I think they’re saying I’m dying too, like I have cancer or something,” Benard stated then went on to confirm, “No, I’m not leaving. I’ve got a year left on my contract.” Maurice told Taite.

Rest assured, Maurice isn’t leaving any time soon. In fact, he The 62 year old continued to give insight into Sonny’s future. The beloved General Hospital star and YouTube host stated, “Look, I’m going to retire, but I don’t think it’s going to be before I’m 65.” He added, “So it is what it is, but we’ll let people say what they say.”

While GH fans can put their worries aside for now, the inevitable hangs in the balance. During the interview, Taited wished Sonny to stick around until he’s 75. But Benard replied, “Well yeah, but I don’t think Maurice can… my reason is that it’s mentally taxing on me.”
