‘Days of Our Lives’ on Indefinite Hiatus; What This Means for ‘General Hospital’

DAYS OF OUR LIVES — Pictured: “Days of our Lives” color logo — NBC Photo

Yesterday, November 12th, Soap Opera Breaking News took the soap fandom by storm as the biggest announcement in recent years regarding the soap world was published. It has been confirmed that the entire cast of NBC‘s Days of Our Lives has been released from their contracts.

So you’re probably wondering, what does this mean? Well, it means that all the actors, and the entire staff (lighting, music, etc.) are free to go out and seek new work. They are no longer bound to their contracts, as now DOOL is on indefinite hiatus.

The show is taped about 8 months in advance and it has been reported, there are enough episodes to take the soap opera through Summer. Hopefully by then, the network and show executives will have come up with a solution to keep the nation’s longest running soap opera in production. Lower salaries for the cast has been mentioned as a requirement if the soap does return.

What does this mean for ABC‘s General Hospital? General Hospital is ABC‘s only surviving Daytime Drama after the cancellation of All My Children (ended 2013) and One Life to Live (ended 2012).

Thankfully, DOOL is on an entirely different television network than that of GH, which is on ABC. If it is a cost issue within the network, it doesn’t have anything to do with the status of ABC‘s, General Hospital. There is always a chance the network could follow suit and try something like this to cut costs. There has been no word of this happening to General Hospital over at ABC.

General Hospital Blog will keep fans updated on the status of DOOL. Stay tuned to General Hospital! We cannot lose our show!

General Hospital News: Tyler Christopher (ex-Nikolas Cassadine) Arrested!

General Hospital Spoilers: Carly Stops by to See Jax, Will Nik’s Cover Be Blown?

This week on General Hospital, the drama intensifies surrounding Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma) and Jax’s (Ingo Rademacher) big secret. General Hospital spoilers for November 12th reveal Carly (Laura Wright) will make her way to Jax’s doorstep.

Jax becomes uneasy as he is still trying to keep Nikolas’ existence a secret while he is hiding Nikolas in his home.

Why is Carly going to see Jax?

According to General Hospital spoilers, Carly comes to talk to Jax about their teenage daughter, Joss (Eden McCoy). Joss wants to live with her Father (Jax) and Carly doesn’t want that to happen.

We know that Jax doesn’t want anyone really near his home while he is keeping Nikolas in hiding. Will Jax make this too easy for Carly? It would be just like Carly to not take what she gets and walk away. Carly tends to pry and get into business that isn’t hers. Will Carly grow suspicious that Jax gave in too easily in regard to Josslyn?

General Hospital Spoilers: A Quartermaine Return!

General Hospital news reports from Soaps In Depth the return of Brook Lynn Ashton, daughter of Ned Ashton and Lois Cerullo. The role formerly and most knowingly played by Adrienne Leon, will now be played by Amanda Setton. Setton is no newbie to Soap Operas. She played the sneaky Kimberly Andrews on ABC’s, One Life to Live, from 2009-2011.

Look out for Amanda Setton’s debut appearance as Brook Lynn Ashton on Monday, November 18th.

General Hospital Spoilers: Sam Accused of Helping Cassanda Escape, Jason Reacts

Cassandra (Jessica Tuck) pulled quite the stunt in her successful attempt to break out of jail, knocking out a guard in the process. The guard isn’t the only one who will suffer from Cassandra’s actions.

This week, General Hospital spoilers tell the trying reveal of Sam Morgan (Kelly Monaco), stuck in Pentonville. It’s one thing after another as GH spoilers reveal Sam will be accused of helping Cassandra escape. According to General Hospital spoilers, Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) will react to this news and he and Jordan Ashford (Briana Henry) will clash over Sam’s (non) involvement in this situation.

Will Sam and Jason be able to prove Sam’s innocence? As if they didn’t have enough false accusations under Sam’s rep, now this? But why would anyone believe Sam would help Cassandra? Jason needs to take action, even if it means stepping over Jordan’s authority. What will Jason do to help save Sam?

General Hospital Spoilers: Steve Burton Reveals Who’s Back!

Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) posted a shot of himself on Instagram. In the photo you’ll see Steve reading lines right before filming.

General Hospital Spoilers: Open Door for Natalia Livingston -Will Emily Return?

General Hospital has seen many return from the dead type story lines in it’s long history. Out most recent gift from the soap Gods is the return of iconic character Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma). Although Tyler Christopher did not return to reprise the role, fans are still happy to see a staple character back in Port Charles. Nikolas has always been a key player and involved with mainly headlining stories throughout the years.

Nikolas’ long time counterpart Emily Quartermaine was killed off the show years ago. In a recent interview with Soaps In Depth, actress Natalia Livingston tells SID that is is open to bringing Emily back to General Hospital. She states,  “If it was actually Emily returning, that would be exciting,” she declared. “I think if it was actually somehow Emily returning and maybe she was never really killed… I mean, I’ve seen so many clever, brilliant storyline ideas over the years that people have tweeted or sent so… yeah, I would definitely be open to that. But I’m not so sure about a ghost.”

Now that Nikolas is back and without a love interest? Would you like to see this fan favorite return to General Hospital?

General Hospital Spoilers: Violet’s Dad is Actually Who?!?!

Hayden Barnes (Rebecca Budig) waltzes back into Port Charles after being gone for so long, and keeping her whereabouts a secret from her ex, Dr. Finn (Michael Easton). Where she had been was not the only secret Hayden was hiding. Thankfully though, it didn’t take her long to come forward to Finn about having a daughter. And to the fan’s delight, Hayden also didn’t take 3 years (soap opera exaggeration here haha) to finally drop the bomb on Finn that Violet (Jophielle Love) his also his daughter. However, there is some gray area when it comes to Violet’s father.

Some may have forgotten that Hayden Barnes was married to Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma) at the time of his “death.” She is is widow, and therefore, now that he is actually still alive, he is still her husband. What does that mean for little Violet? According to General Hospital spoilers, Nikolas’ return to Port Charles will make things very difficult for Finn and his relationship with his and Hayden’s daughter, Violet, because legally, Nikolas would be Violet’s father.

Nikolas isn;t the most generous or easy going man especially when it comes to Hayden. He plays dirty to get what he wants. Although they are working together toward the same goal, (taking down Valentin Cassadine), Nikolas and Hayden are still at odds on a personal level. Does Nik have it in him to try and keep Finn away from Violet?

General Hospital Spoilers: Someone Unexpected Discovers Nikolas

Nikolas managed to sneak himself into Port Charles and mingle among his closest friends without them even knowing. No one believes Ava that Nikolas is alive, and Cassandra, Hayden Barnes and Jax are the only ones who know Nikolas is alive and in Port Charles.

General Hospital spoilers reveal that it will only get more difficult more difficult for Nikolas to keep his mortal status a secret. He is currently living with Jax and staying under the radar. Josslyn is still in her teen mode of wanting to come live with her dad. She asks Jax again if she can come live with him. Jax cannot have Joss living with him while Nikolas is living there and in hiding. Jax doesn’t know how to turn his daughter down so he turns to Carly.

Jax must keep Josslyn out of his house before she happens to become the next person to find out Nikolas is alive. That’s a risk they are just not willing to take.
