Sonny Corinthos Then and Now
Sonny Corinthos has been a key character on General Hospital since 1993, played by Maurice Benard. A powerful mob boss in Port Charles, he balances ruthless business tactics with fierce loyalty to his loved ones. He has faced many challenges, including bipolar disorder, turbulent romances, and deadly rivalries. Despite his criminal ties, he remains devoted to family and friends. His complex nature makes him a fan favorite. Co-star Laura Wright, who plays Carly Corinthos, calls him “the mobster with a heart of gold,” capturing his mix of toughness and compassion.
There is never a dull moment in the life of a high powered mod boss. It seems like every time he turns around there is another threat, another mob family out to get revenge, or take his territory, steal his latest love interest, or kidnap his kids. Sonny can never turn his back because there is always someone behind him waiting for that one moment where he is vulnerable.
One of the earliest of Sonny’s enemies on GH was his own Father in law. Lily’s father was a dangerous Puerto Rican crime Lord who eventually made the biggest mistake of his life. A car bomb that was actually meant for Sonny, ended up killing his own daughter, Lily who was pregnant at the time. After the death of his wife and unborn child, Sonny never forgave himself and this traumatic incident would shape Sonny Corinthos into the man he is today. Sonny was highly effected by the death of his wife which was meant for him. From then on, he constantly lives in fear that the ones he loves will end up getting hurt. This is why he left Brenda at the altar. Even in more recent times, with Kate/Connie, Sonny feared that the ones closest to him always get hurt, and he is usually right.
After killing AJ, then finding out Ava was the one who actually killed Connie and not AJ, Sonny has been under a lot of stress. The last thing he needs before he is done dealing with Ava and her pregnancy is more complications in his life. Apparently, there is a rumor that Sonny comes across an old Port Charles newspaper featuring the story of Lily getting killed. Why is this coming to the surface now, about 20 years after her death? Could Lily still be alive? Her son Juan has been back and forth to Port Charles from Puerto Rico a few times since his cousin Sabrina arrived. Currently, the two are in Puerto Rico and Juan is supporting his cousin while she grieves the loss of her baby boy. When Sabrina returns, will Juan come along with her? He may have a reason, and an agenda that involves Sonny.

There have been a lot of fans asking about one particular character that has been a fan favorite since the 90s. Social media sites are flooded with fans assuming that the return of one of their favorite characters is now underway.
General Hospital in the 90s was one of the greatest times in the show’s history. There was Robin and Stone, Jason, AJ, Karen and Jagger, Sonny and Brenda, Lily, Miguel, and more. It was an exciting time for the youth because a lot of the main focus were on the high school aged teens like Brenda, Karen, Robin, Stone, and Jason.
So which fan favorite of the 90s is said to be making a comeback?
Now there hasn’t been any confirmation from ABC or the Executives over at General Hospital, but there has been a lot of talk that Vanessa Marcil will be headed back to Port Charles this Summer to reprise her role as the beautiful Brenda Barrett.
Fans are already speculating and romanticizing a story for their beloved Brenda. Many want her to claim her man (Sonny), while teaming up with Carly to take Ava down. Now wouldn’t that be interesting?! Carly and Brenda on the same side! Others want Jax to make a come back as well. With all the talk of Fluke being Harlan Barrett, fans have also theorized that Brenda will make her comeback when the identity of Fluke is revealed. Sonny and Carly gave a long history and explosive chemistry. They have been through thick and thin, the good and the bad, and no matter what they do to one another, they always seem to find their way back to each other.Since Carly, Sonny has found love with many women. Connie, Olivia, Brenda, and Emily just to name a few. Carly has had a few great loves as well. Jax is probably her second great love, whose last name she still carries although they are divorced. Currently Carly is with Franco. Artist, and ex-sociopath, all due to a brain tumor that was causing him to be crazy. Carly sees past what once was with Franco and was able to forgive him for the things he could not control. So if Carly and Franco are so good together now, why should Franco be jealous?
Currently, Sonny and Carly both are up to their necks in the whole AJ’s murder situation. No, Carly didn’t help Sonny shoot him, but she did however give Sonny the only evidence that could pin him to the murder. There are a lot of things to consider in this drama. Ava is a huge complication. Sonny can’t even get the word out that she is the one who killed Connie without implicating himself at the same time. Then there is Michael. When Michael finds out Sonny killed AJ, and Carly has known for all this time, things are not going to be pretty for the entire Corinthos family. This is a time where Carly and Sonny will most likely stick together and have one another’s backs.
Franco is already showing signs of jealousy, and according to Ava, he is the jealous type. Will Franco take his insecurities to a level where Carly won’t be able to forgive him? Franco just might spill the beans about the recodring of Sonny shooting AJ, and Carly just might resent him forever, leaving Carly to run back to Sonny.

Word out on the street is that Maurice Benard will be taking about 6 months off of his role as Sonny Corinthos and heading out of Port Charles! Why? you ask, well speculations suggest that the time will be used to promote a movie Maurice is in. Apparently Maurice is working on a project that he will be soon able to tell fans about.

There is a shoot out and someone gets hit! But who is going to die? GH magazines and internet posts a like warn fans that a beloved character will take the fall. But who will it be? Sonny? Luke? Ric? Julian?
One theory is that Anna finds out that Ric has been framed and the entire showdown is a set up. It’s been rumored that Ric will be the one to die. But will he actually be dead? Speculations say that Anna will help Ric to fake his death in an attempt to find out who the real mob boss is. Not everyone is left in the dark, Sonny is also in on this. Rumors have been circulating that Sonny will actually help his brother Ric who was once an enemy.
Another theory is that Luke will be the one to die, but since he isn’t really Luke at this time, (we like to call him Fluke), that the impostor will die but the real Luke Spencer is still alive at Miscavige.

Things are getting pretty intense for the residents of Port Charles these days. With AJ just being shot, there are many people who are trying to figure out why and what exactly happened to him. Anna DeVane is hot on the case with suspects such as Julian and Sonny. Shawn, Duke, and Carly all know Sonny’s deep dark secret that he is the one who pulled the trigger, sending AJ to GH to fight for his life. Sonny has betrayed his son Michael as he promised him he wouldn’t hurt AJ. We all know that Ava is the one who had every intention on killing AJ, and Sonny just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time resulting in a crime of passion. Ava has been behind many of the crimes in Port Charles as of late, including the murder of Connie Falconeri, and shooting Olivia Falconeri when she was aiming for Franco.
Head Writer, Ron Carlivati teases that things between Sonny and Ava are going to get a lot crazier now that the two of them share this secret about AJ. However, Executive Producer, Frank Valentini mentioned that it will be a long while before Sonny ever figures out that Ava is actually the one who killed Connie, and not AJ.

Recently there has been word that coming later this Spring, Brandon Barash will be coming back to General Hospital to reprise his role as Johnny Zacchara. It has been said that Johnny will be back in Port Charles and will ultimately team up with King Mobster, Sonny Corinthos in an attempt to take down Julian and the rest of those involved in the Jerome Family organization.
Trevor Lansing (Ric’s Father) has been rumored to be the one bank rolling Julian’s organization and to have taken over Barrett Enterprises. The whole story involving Barrett Enterprises may somehow have to do with the Zacchara’s. There is a lot more to all of this than we currently know.

Ava Jerome has caused a lot of trouble since she has come into town. She is responsible for manipulation, lies, and murder. AJ finally figured out that he wasn’t the one to kill Connie Falconeri and that Ava Jerome was. Connie wrote “AJ” in her own blood causing Sonny to believe that AJ Quartemaine is responsible for his love’s death. Today we all learned that AJ is innocent. Sonny however is none the wiser. After Sonny walked in on AJ choking Ava, just as he walked in on him choking Connie at one point, Sonny had enough. In a fit of rage, Sonny pulled the trigger. Meanwhile, Michael is assuring Monica that Sonny has promised him he wouldn’t hurt AJ.
It looks as if Ava is still in the clear for now. With AJ being shot and unable to reveal the truth, Ava will be able to keep up her lies and false innocence in regards to killing Connie. What will happen to AJ next? The question everyone wants an answer to is whether or not Sean Kanan is leaving General Hospital. Ito has been noted somewhere that Head Writer, Ron Carlivati stated that Sean (and AJ) are not going anywhere. The brother of mob boss Sonny Corinthos will soon be back in Port Charles. Ric Lansing, played by Rick Hearst will be rejoining the cast of General Hospital after four years of being away. Not only will Sonny be reunited with his brother, Molly will be reunited with her Father.
Ric made quite a reputation for himself with the people of Port Charles. From lying, scheming, and kidnapping a pregnant Carly, to Fathering the daughter of top lawyer Alexis Davis. We just aren’t sure what to expect! Will he be naughty or nice?
Look for Ric Lansing to come to Port Charles on Monday, February 24th. We look forward to his return and the possible story lines that come from this character!
Sonny wants to take down Julian Jerome’s operation. Since he can’t target Julian directly, because he is little Daniel Morgan’s life line, he has to go after his organization, starting with Carlos Rivera. Sonny asked his associates to do some digging and find out who Carlos Rivera exactly is. When Sonny finds out he is a relative of his late wife Lily Rivera (Lilly Melgar), will this put a wrench in his plans to take Carlos out? Will this discovery make peace between Sonny and Carlos or start a brand new war?
