On May 2nd, The Writers Guild Of America went on strike. Now, the future of our favorite shows hangs in the balance. The Writer’s Guild On Strike

According to General Hospital news and spoilers, the cast and crew of GH will be affected by the strike in the comings weeks. Daytime Television’s fast-paced film schedule gives the ABC soap opera some time. Allegedly, the episodes are filmed about 4-6 weeks ahead. Therefore, there’s about a month and a half of fresh episodes left. Unfortunately, if this doesn’t get resolved quickly, alternative writer’s step in and develop the storyline from that point on.

Here’s How The Writer’s Strike Affects General Hospital

WGA writer, Shannon Peace explains the complexity of the situation that when it comes to Soap Operas. “Daytime writers face a unique conflict during strikes,” Peace wrote. “We hate to see our characters and storylines handed over to ‘writers’ who cross the picket line. But we’re also keenly aware that stopping production could spell the demise of soap operas. Hoping the AMPTP does the right thing soon — not just for writers, but for the integrity of storytelling.”

As a result, it’s only a matter of time before the shows we love cease to air new episodes. First, late night shows such as SNL are hit first. Next, the fast paced nature of filming soaps allows for about a month of new shows before storylines are left hanging. Unfortunately, this news comes soon after ABC’s General Hospital celebrated its 60th anniversary. However, we won’t let this stops us or turn our backs on our show. We hope and pray a resolution is reached very soon and GH returns for another 60+ years.
