Over the years Benard’s portrayal of Sonny has become the show’s foundation. I mean, what better way to utilize a hospital than with victims of mob crime?

Needless to say but General Hospital as we know it wouldn’t be the same without Maurice, aka Sonny Corinthos. That’s why it’s most appropriate that Maurice Benard shares the news of this special achievement. Moreover, Maurice has personal experience with the milestone.

According to recent General Hospital news and spoilers, Benard joins ABC’s General Hospital on their official Instagram account. There he will unbox a plaque and announce an awarded achievement. As we know, social media holds unprecedented power in our society. They don’t call it social media influencer for nothing. That said, as an individual, organization, or group that produces significant societal impact typically strive to reach milestones. Therefore it’s imperative to grow your audience for increased engagement, hence influencing.

GH hasn’t been around for 60 years and counting for nothing. Clearly the iconic Soap Opera’s influential practices are in alignment with what fans. The Executives over at GH have stayed current with the times and utilize social media platforms effectively. So much so that GH has received an award for the show’s influence on our culture.

Benard announced that GH was given an award for reaching 100,000 YouTube subscribers. The three-time Daytime Emmy winner acknowledged GH’s hard work it takes to accomplish this milestone. That’s because Benard could relate, as he reached this milestone on YouTube as well. Most importantly, Maurice Benard thanks GH fans for their continued dedication. The daytime television world was shaken to its core when the Emmy winning, General Hospital and Days Of Our Lives star, Tyler Christopher died suddenly. He was only 50 years old. Recently, he had bravely opened up about his life and the hardships that he faced due to mental illness and addiction.

Previously reported, GH Blog shared the news after General Hospital’s Maurice Benard broke the devastating news via social media. General Hospital news reports confirmed that Tyler Christopher died on October 31st, 2023.

As the community mourned Tyler’s passing, many took the opportunity to spread mental health awareness. Particularly, Tyler’s friend and former co-star Maurice Benard. Tyler joined Benard on his YouTube series, State of Mind, and discussed mental illness, addictions and other life experiences and struggles. Tyler’s vulnerability and strength were transparent in his interview as his darkest hours were aired for all to learn.

For me, the same goes for television and music. Almost all of today’s top 40 pop songs contain music samples from the past. So when you hear this fresh sound with a familiar twist, you kinda feel right at home. Well, that’s how it is for me when my faves from the past return.

I started watching General Hospital in the 1990s like many of you. And I can honestly say that this era seems to have left the most permanent mark on GH fans. That said, do you remember the popular character, Karen Wexler, played by Cari Sheen? She was right there in the middle of heated storylines involving strip clubs, drugs, and Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard).

His and Sasha Gilmore’s (Sofia Mattsson) life was just beginning when he was tragically killed by the Port Charles hook killer. Brando and his portrayer, Johnny, quickly won GH fans over. Fans were devastated by Brando’s death, and many took to social media to express their disappointment in writing him off. Despite his GH exit, Wactor kept his GH fan following.

Alicia portrayed Sonny’s sister Courtney Matthews and is the mother of Sonny’s nephew Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Alexander Chavez). On a recent episode of the YouTube series State Of Mind, General Hospital spoilers reveal Alicia Leigh Willis opened up about her time at General Hospital.

In an intensely insightful State of Mind interview, Willis admits her reason for leaving General Hospital. When discussing Benard’s struggle with mental health, Alicia and Maurice opened up about his behind-the-scenes behavior. According to Willis, Benard’s behavior played a part in her GH exit.

“I didn’t know what you were going through,” Willis confessed. “All I knew is that you and I were really close. And I always had a way of taking things really personally. So if someone was in a bad mood around me, I felt like it was my fault, like I had done something.

“So for a long time, I didn’t know which Maurice I was gonna get,” she added. “One day you were the most charming, amazing… and then another day I was a little scared. I was just like, does he hate me? Did I do something? I didn’t understand at the time.

Things Get Dark

Alicia reflected on some dark times while on the set of General Hospital. “I remember the last year of the show was really dark,” she admitted. “I would go to my dressing room and I would just cry. And it wasn’t just that. That was a big part of it, but I felt like we had such a good connection. That was a big reason. So much was disclosed in this interview, as fans saw a new dynamic between Sonny and Courtney’s portrayers. “This is the first time I’ve ever actually said that out loud,” she added. “Because people said, ‘Why are you leaving the show? They’re offering you another four years. You’re a working actress. What are you doing?’ And I’m like, “I can’t stay. I’m so unhappy.’” Willis acknowledged that she has a better understanding now of what TV brother was going through. “This is the first time I’ve ever actually said that out loud,” she said. “Because people said, ‘Why are you leaving the show? They’re offering you another four years. You’re a working actress. What are you doing?’ And I’m like, “I can’t stay. I’m so unhappy.’”

It sounds like Willis and Benard have come to an understanding. “After I saw the Oprah interview, it clicked,” she told Benard. “And now the journey that you are on is so incredible. Because people need to talk about it. I wish we had talked about it 20 years ago! If we had had this kind of dialogue back then? Think of how much easier it would have been for all of us to just talk to each other.”

General Hospital Spoilers: Vanessa Marcil’s Work Ethic Raised Concerns With Former Co-Star, Gets Called Out; Was It A Lesson Learned?

If you have been following soap operas for a long time like most of us daytime tv fans, it’s likely you know a little something about the filming style and schedule of a soap actor.

General Hospital news and spoilers reveal soap operas are filmed in a demanding, high paced environment, that is designed to roll our once scene after another. With early call times and long hours, having a solid work ethic among the cast is key.

General Hospital spoilers reveal Maurice Benard sat down with daytime star, Rena Sofer, on the YouTube series, State of Mind. In the interview, the longtime friends discussed many aspects of life, focusing on their time together while playing Bensonhurst Besties, Sonny Corinthos and Lois Cerullo. Sonny and Lois had counterparts, or, love interests at the time that completed what was referred to as, the fearsome foursome. Vanessa Marcil and Wally Kurth played along side Maurice and Lois as Brenda Barrett and Ned Ashton.

In Maurice’s interview with Rena, she recalled a specific time while on set with Marcil; an incident that occurred m which set the tone for their working relationship was the turning point for the young actress. Rena recalled a time when Vanessa was late, didn’t show up, and Vanessa told Rena, “Oh, I’m so sorry, I overslept.” Sofer continued to disclose that Marcil didn’t make entry lines. Rena explained, “And I just remember looking at her and going, ‘I don’t care who you do that, don’t do it with me. I don’t want that.’” Surprised by Sofer’s admission to being bold and straightforward with Vanessa, he asked how she took it. Rena admitted, “I think it really affected her,” she continued, “And maybe she doesn’t even remember that I said that. I think it affected her because every time we ever worked together again, we worked to make our relationship deeper than what they were writing it, which I think is why it was so intense and beautiful.”

Rena and Vanessa’s relationship deepened from that point on. Sofer made it clear that she expects out of her co-workers, the same type of dedication and effort as she puts in. Giving it their all has a lot to do with the success of their era. GH fans couldn’t get enough of Ned and Lois, Sonny and Brenda, and of course, Lois and Brenda. L & B Records was iconic and the bond between Lois and Brenda was as strong as that of Rena and Vanessa.

It’s nice to reflect on the good ole days, back in the 90s when Sonny Corinthos was making a name for himself around Port Charles. After all, coming from Bensonhurst gives immediate street cred.
