Actor Chad Duell was the face of General Hospital’s Michael Corinthos from 2010 to 2025. For nearly 15 years, GH fans knew Duell as Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) son. Reportedly, General Hospital news confirmed that Chad Duell announced and confirmed his General Hospital exit. However, Duell’s leave was always meant to be a temporary step away from the daytime drama.
In May of 2025, the role of Michael Corinthos was recast, and long-standing, Emmy-winning Duell was replaced. That’s when actor Rory Gibson stepped in to take over as Sonny and Carly’s (Laura Wright) son, Michael.
Recently, Chad Duell confessed that he was unaware that General Hospital would recast the role. The move was unexpected, and Duell’s “break” from the show became a permanent vacation. Back in November of 2024, Chad Duell’s intentions were to someday return to General Hospital as Michael Corinthos. During a Livestream with Michael Chair. Chad reflected on his thought process when he decided to but Michael on the back-burner. “I’m taking some time away, we’ll see what happens.” He said. “Obviously, they decided to go in a different direction with Michael when I was gone. I didn’t think they were going to bring somebody back in my place. But you know, it’s the business. You never know what can happen.” Chad also admitted that he has not watched a single episode since he left the role.
